21+. she/they, D&D lady. I probably cry about Bucky Barnes too much. Queer. No one ever talks to me about the DCF books After It Happened and that is very tragic imo.

what I really like about all these vintage couple’s portraits is that there is a very certain romatic decorum kept up – certain themes and poses – which, while of course being the mainstream preferred view of couples repeated throughout many studios, are just… so nice to look at.
this staged affection, a mix of theatricality and intimacy, the couple holding still for a couple of moments and now immortalised in a very set sequence of embraces and kisses. there is a charm to it even when I can’t tell whether this was a genuine couple portait or just actors hired by the photographer.
the kiss on the bare shoulder (eyes perfectly averted), the cheek caress, the piano and the violin, the interrupted embrace, the woman tilted back as in a half-stopped dance…
I simply must torment you a bit with these, let us see some of my personal favourites! (part one due to the image limit)
let us start with the kiss on the cheek (eyes averted! oh the pose! these were taken between 1910-1940)
or the nearly opposite energy (how daring!) of the kiss or caress with direct eye contact (1910-1930)
and then the innocent – yet so flirty – classic of the park encounter! (1890-1920)
and then the famed kissonthebareshoulder – what an idea, what a vibe, such intimacy! (1910-1930)
and oh, I am not done, look at this – theadorationofthewoman! look at this expression, this pose, this decorum! (1910-1940)
and then some of my favourites from the more playfulordirectcategory, enjoy (1910-1930):
and, at last (thank you for still being here and witnessing my recent fascination with vintage polish photography) my three absolute favourites outside of any particular categories (1910-1930)
i think it’s really fun when a rly specific trope is super popular in one particular medium but in other ones it’s just totally unheard of. it’s the time knife. visual novel players are suuuuper used to death games but many others encountered them for the first time in squid games. the other day my mom showed me all excited the summary of a super original novel she found and it was about a girl who got reincarnated as the main character in her favorite fantasy book
Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the Goblin City to take back the child that you have stolen. For my will is as strong as yours, and my kingdom is as great… You have no power over me.
are you guys hearing about this dude working to developing a vaccine for cats that he’s hoping would like. theoretically double their lifespans?
turns out i wasn’t making that up, his name is Dr. Toru Miyazaki! he also wrote a book called “The Day Cats Live To Be Thirty”, so cats are kind of his thing.
apparently, cats’ kidneys tend to be the thing that takes them down, something about their bodies being unable to self-clean their kidneys, and the vaccine is supposed revitalize the body’s ability to do just that. It would be very VERY fucking cool to have cats suddenly reaching 30 years of age be the normal thing.
the first time I visited a catholic church i was 14 and it was at a random hour so nobody was in there and it was So Pink and they were playing some sort of pretty ambient music and it was boiling hot outside but they had AC so it was a really positive experience but i could not get over how pink and dreamy it all was compared to an orthodox church that’s usually very serious and dark and full of paintings and stuff.
I stole this picture from google but like this doesn’t do justice to how pink it was in there. candy shop vibes.
and then the next year I went to munich and we visited a cathedral there and they had a special event where the whole church was filled with plants (fake and real) and fake birds and there was a fountain in the middle??? and I was like what is going on in catholicism
